Ilona Croy is head of the Department of Clinical Psychology at the Institute of PsychologyExternal link. She and her group study the social aspects of mental disorders, focusing on the multisensory perception of other people and the influence on neuronal and autonomic functions. For example, the researchers investigate affective touch perception via C-tactile nerve fibers and its effects on stress's interpersonal and transgenerational transmission. In addition, they explore how odor perception and the emission of body odors change over the lifespan and how this affects social relationships. Specific treatment options are derived from this, such as electrical stimulation of the olfactory epithelium to activate the salience network in depression.
